IMBY Support/Rhythm of the Seasons

What is the IMBY safety event? IMBY stands for "In My Back Yard," and that's where safety should start. In the IMBY safety event, participants learn about safety for their farm and farm home and develop an action plan to correct hazards.

The full plan for the event includes showing the video "Rhythm of the Seasons: A Journey beyond Loss." This video is based on the book of the same name by Marilyn Adams, who lost her son Keith in a farm accident in 1986. In this video, Marilyn tells the story of losing Keith and of the first year of her recovery. After that year, Marilyn went on to found Farm Safety 4 Just Kids, which now has chapters throughout the US and Canada, all working to make the lives of farm children safer.

Rhythm of the Seasons video -- An important part of the IMBY Workshop is the video "Rhythm of the Seasons: A Journey beyond Loss." The video is based on the book of the same name by Marilyn Adams. Marilyn lost her son, Keith, in a farm incident in 1986. It took her a year to recover to some kind of normalcy. She then founded farm Safety 4 Just Kids to prevent death and injury to other farm children.

The video features Marilyn reading from the book interspersed with re-enactments. A prologue is presented by C. Everett Koop, former Surgeon General, and there is an epilogue by well-known farm broadcaster, Orion Samuleson.

This moving video ends on a note of hope -- there is something "beyond loss." It can be used with either farm safety audiences or groups dealing with grief and loss.
