Confined Spaces Alert-DHHS (NIOSH) Publication No. 86-110 
(This Alert requests the assistance of managers, supervisors, and workers in the prevention of deaths that occur in confined spaces.)

Fixed Industrial Stairs: OSHA Standard 1910.24
(This is a condensation of Standard 1910.24. This standard contains specifications for the safe design and construction of fixed general industrial stairs, including interior and exterior stairs around machinery, tanks and other equipment, and stairs leading to or from floors, platforms or pits.)

General Housekeeping Requirements: OSHA Standard 1910.22
(This is a condensation of Standard 1910.22. While this standard specifically exempts permanent places of employment where agricultural work is performed, it should be evident that the intent was to exclude out-door work in agricultural production only)

NIOSH Warns Farmers of Deadly Risk of Grain Suffocation 
(According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), grain farmers and their families may face deadly hazards when working with grain bins. At least nine farmers recently suffocated to death in stored grain after being buried alive.)

NIOSH Warns: Manure Pits Continue to Claim Lives
(According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), farm workers are risking their lives every time they enter a manure pit.)

Preventing Deaths of Farm Workers in Manure Pits 
(Many farm workers appear to be unaware of the immediate danger posed by entry into manure pits. Like other types of confined spaces, manure pits present special problems regarding worker awareness of hazards. The dangerous atmospheric conditions may exist intermittently.)
